Dinosaur Genera: J

This is a list of known dinosaur genera (the plural of genus). Click on a dinosaur's name to go to information about it. After each genus name (in italics), the namer(s) of the dinosaur is listed, along with the year it was named. The bold-faced dinosaurs are scientifically valid; the others are either dubious or not yet formally described. Dinosaurs whose authors are listed in red were carnivores (meat-eaters); dinosaurs listed in green were herbivores (plant-eaters)

Terms used in the dinosaur genera list:

nomen dubium - A genus name is described as a nomen dubiumif its classification is not certain. Usually this is because there is insufficient fossil material available.
nomen nudum - A genus name is described as a nomen nudumif it has been insufficiently described or lacks a type species.
Ichnogenus - An ichnogenus is a genus known only from fossilized footprints (or other trace fossils). These may belong to a dinosaur also known from fossilized bones, but it is virtually impossible to determine this.
vide - A genus that was named by the second listed author, but is attributed to the first author(s) by the second.
/ (slash) - A name preoccupied (already in use) by the second indicated author(s). The first authors were unaware of this when they named the dinosaur.
