Note: Since the area in this map is so close to the pole, we cannot include a compass rose (telling the directions north, south, east, and west).
Some Major Cities, etc.:
Arctic Circle - an imaginary circle that is 23 degrees 28 minutes south of the North Pole (and parallel to the equator).
Caucasus Mountains - a chain of mountains that separates Russia from Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Kamchatka Peninsula - a peninsula in northeastern Russia; it is south of the Bering Sea and north of the Sea of Okhotsk.
Moscow - the capital city of Russia; located in western Russia.
Novaya Zemlya - a long island in the Arctic Ocean; it is located off the northern coast of Russia, north of the Ural Mountains.
Novosibirsk - a city in southern Asian Russia (east of the Ural mountains) along the Ob River and near the Kazakhstan border.
Sakhalin - an island off the coast of eastern Russia; it is located just north of Japan.
Siberia - a huge area of northeastern Russia that is very cold, mountainous, and sparsely populated.
St. Petersburg - a city in northwestern Russia near Finland and north of Moscow.
Ural Mountains - a chain of mountains that runs north and south from the Arctic Ocean (west of the Ob River) to Kazakhstan, dividing Russia into two parts: European Russia on the west and Asian Russia on the east.
Volgograd - a city on the Volga River, located southwest of Moscow.
Yakutsk - a city along the Lena River in eastern Russia.

Bodies of Water:
Arctic Ocean - the ocean located north of Russia.
Baltic Sea - the sea surrounded by Russia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, etc.
Barents Sea - a sea off the northwestern coast of Russia and north of Scandanavia.
Bering Sea - the sea off the northeastern coast of Russia north of the Kamchatka Peninsula and south of Alaska, USA.
Bering Strait - the thin body of water separating Russia and Alaska, USA; it connects the Bering Sea and the Arctic Ocean.
Black Sea - a sea in Eastern Europe bordered by Russia on its northeast, Ukraine on its north, Georgia on its east, etc.
Caspian Sea - the sea bordered by Russia on its northwest, Kazakhstan on its northeast, Azerbaijan on its west, etc.
Lake Baikal - a huge lake in southeastern Russia near Russia's border with Mongolia.
Lena River - a Siberian river that flows from Lake Baikal north to the Arctic Ocean.
Ob River - the river that flows from southern Russia (near where Russia borders Kazakhstan and Mongolia) north to the Arctic Ocean.
Sea of Japan - the body of water separating Russia and Japan.
Sea of Okhotsk - the sea off the eastern coast of Russia; it is located south of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
Volga River - the river that flows from northeast of Moscow into the Caspian Sea.
Yenisey River - a river that flows from central Russia north into the Arctic Ocean; it is located between the Ob River and the Lena River.

Azerbaijan - a country that borders Russia to the south; it is southeast of Georgia.
Belarus - a country that borders Russia to the west; Belarus is northeast of Ukraine and south of Lithuania and Latvia.
China - a country that borders Russia on the southeast.
Estonia - a small country that borders Russia on the northwest; Estonia also borders the Baltic Sea and Latvia.
Finland - a Scandinavian country that borders Russia to the northwest; Finland also borders the Baltic Sea.
Georgia - a country that borders Russia on the southwest, across the Caucasus Mountains; Georgia is northwest of Azerbaijan and borders the Black Sea.
Japan - a country off the southeast coast of Russia; it is composed of a series of islands.
Kazakhstan - a country that borders Russia to the south; it is northwest of China.
Latvia - a country that borders Russia to the west; it also borders the Baltic Sea, Belarus, Lithuania, and Estonia
Lithuania - a country that borders a small, disconnected part of Russia to the east; Lithuania also borders the Baltic Sea.
Mongolia - a country that borders Russia to the south; it is east of the Caspian Sea.
North Pole - the northernmost point on Earth; it is located in the Arctic Ocean.
Poland - a country that borders a small, disconnected part of Russia to the west; Poland also borders the Baltic Sea, Belarus, Ukraine, and other European countries.
Ukraine - a country that borders Russia to the west, south of Belarus and north of the Black Sea.
USA - Alaska, a state in the USA, is across the Bering Strait from northeastern Russia.
