The Test of Time A Novel by I. MacPenn |
I don't understand why Jack Horner insists that virtually all huge meat eating dinosaurs were scavengers. I hear his arguments but the postion of others, such as Bob Bakker seam to make more sense (predators and scavengers).
from Don D., age 46, Brookhaven, Pa, USA; July 26, 2001
TOM: I agree with you. I have problems with Horner's idea that large theropods, or just tyrannosaurids, or just T. rex, was an obligate scavenger (that is, they couldn't hunt). On the other hand, all the large theropods probably scavenged, and some of the species, or growth stages within species, may have actually got most of their food from carrion. However, without a time machine we cannot know for certain.
