Dr. Tom Holtz and Dr. Michael K. Brett-Surman
answer dinosaur questions for the readers of ZoomDinosaurs.com
:

Two questions. 1:Would a pack of at least 6 utahraptors be enough to kill T-rex? 2:Could raptors communicate with each other? (probably not to JP3's extent.)
from Joe Bob B., age 11, Menlo Park, ?, ?; July 23, 2001

1. In real life, Utahraptor was extinct for tens of millions of years before T. rex evolved. A single Utahraptor could kill a baby T. rex, and it is possible that a gang of 6 or more Utahraptors might be able to take down a T. rex, particularly if they had the surprise. However, it is very hard to determine this for certain, because the anatomy of Utahraptor is not well understood.

2. Since dromaeosaurs ("raptors") are extinct, we can't tell exactly how much communication they had. However, many modern reptiles (including birds) use both sound and visual signals to communicate with each other, raptors almost certainly did, too. However, just because an animal communicates doesn't mean that it is highly intelligent or can plan traps and such: after all, a prairie dog chirping to announce that a coyote is coming is communicating, but I wouldn't consider pairie dogs particularly intelligent.
