Urban areas are teeming with animals that have adapted to city life. Some city-dwellers include the pigeon, house sparrow (also called the English sparrow), starling, American crow, blackbird, peregrine falcon, gray squirrel, mouse, rat, mosquito, house fly, cockroach, moth, spider, ant, beetle, mite, flea, dog (domesticated and feral), cat (domesticated and feral) and people.
As the number and size of cities around the world increases, many animals are moving to cities to find food and shelter. The term synanthropization means the adjustment of animals and plants to man-made environmental conditions.
